Celebration of Reading on Read Across America Day!

read across americaChildren and teachers have been celebrating Read Across America since 1998 when the National Educators Association (NEA) initiated a nationwide celebration of reading. Formerly, the event was celebrated on Dr. Seuss’ birthday, March 2. In recent years, the NEA has redesigned the nation’s celebration of reading. The new focus celebrates our diverse nation of readers, authors, and books that allow all children to see themselves in the books they read.

On March 15, Haggerty School celebrated Read Across America Day in various ways: dressing as favorite book characters, hosting guest readers and decorating classroom doors with a book theme. The day ended with a whole school assembly focused on sharing books students love.
