At the recent “Back to School” night, several parents asked for suggestions of websites that contain fun, math-focused games for children. Here are two free websites that have good quality math games that many children enjoy. Both sites include games that practice basic math skills as well as games that encourage players to use logic and careful reasoning to solve problems.

Math Playground
One aspect I particularly like about this site is that it organizes its games and activities both by grade and by the common core state standards. (Just click on the green button that says “common core.”) This makes it easy to find games that match what your child is working on in school.

Another site with great games is Hood a Math. This site can also sort games by grade level and by subject (e.g. addition or fractions), making it easier to supplement the math being taught in the classroom.

Hope you enjoy! If you have other suggestions for websites (or apps) that your child has enjoyed and learned from, please share!
