WeatherThe last few months first graders have been studying basic weather concepts. Students read about and studied EXTREME Weather, a crowd pleaser for sure! Our Gr. 1 Science curriculum focuses on the following key concepts:

  1. Weather has elements such as temperature, cloud cover, wind speed and precipitation.
  2. Weather changes day to day, week to week and month to month.
  3. Weather impacts choices we make.

Students constructed WIND Socks to measure wind strength. We took pre and post WIND walks to observe things in nature that can help us to predict wind strength and speed. Students also learned a little bit about the Beaufort Scale. tudents in both classes loved making their wind socks and had tons of fun testing the Wind Sock outdoors. Now kids know why grown ups often say, “Hold your hats!”
