First Grade

Curriculum

ELA Students

The first grade is a developmentally based, and skills and concepts are taught using a theme based, integrated curriculum whenever possible. A variety of activities are provided to afford all children the opportunity to feel successful. Students are encouraged to be active participants in their own learning as they explore, question, take risks, and seek out knowledge.

Much time is devoted to teaching children to become independent and responsible members of a caring community of learners. The social curriculum supports and makes possible the successful implementation of the academic curriculum.

Class Activities and Special Programs
Field trips we have taken to support and enhance curriculum include: Harvard University’s Peabody Museum, Natick Community Organic Farm, Wheelock Family Theatre, Fresh Pond, and the Blue Hill Weather Observatory.
