By Shelley Irvin-Kent
Lucy Joan Sollogub, professional dulcimer performer and teacher, completed a short residency working 2nd grade, Ms. Golding and Mrs. Lacey’s kindergarten classes. Kindergarten classes learned the history of the dulcimer, sang a few accompanied songs, and even tried out brushing (strumming) the dulcimer. 2nd grade classes had a more involved experience, learning to use the right hand to brush the dulcimer and the left hand on the frets. Mrs. Sollogub visited each 2nd grade class twice and Ms. Irvin-Kent taught two additional dulcimer lessons in between. Students accompanied themselves singing Shady Grove and learned how to play Twinkle, Twinkle on dulcimer. You can hear students singing Shady Grove and Mrs. Sollogub on dulcimer here.
Thanks to FOH for this opportunity!
