On Friday, May 24th, the
Bionic Project visited with every classroom, JK through 2nd grade. Their mission is "dismantling disability bias through education, story and sport." They started each session by talking about how you make a friend, particularly when the other person is different from yourself. They outlined that you start by introducing yourself and finding common interests, not by asking personal questions. They read the book, What happened to you? by James Catchpole. They also asked the group questions, some where lots of people had shared interests or experiences and some that few shared. The Bionic team includes three elite adaptive soccer athletes - who also demonstrated their amazing skills! The students also ran through an obstacle course so they could experience challenges. The students were fully engaged and asked great questions! Thanks to Friends of Haggerty for this valuable enrichment.
