Posted on 06/21/2016

Spring ConcertThe final concert of the year opened with Haggerty Chorus (3rd, 4th, and 5th graders) singing canon Welcome, Every Guest from the 1700s. Then they moved into Watoto Wa Dunia, accompanied by Joshua Hilaire on tubano drum. It was followed by two spirituals, Swing Low, Sweet Chariot, and All Night, All Day, performed as partner songs with solos by Ian Fleurant-Heurtelou, Saadiq Salat, Avery Brown, and Calvin Patti. Haggerty Chorus wrapped up with Rollo Dilworth’s arrangement of Ain’t Gonna Let Nobody Turn Me ‘Round, previously performed at the Newton Invitational in April.

First grade followed with Moroccan canon A Ram Sam Sam and Ferry Me Across the Water in meter. They ended with a two-part arrangement of folksong Little Bird.

Third grade performed Sarasponda, arranged by Ms. Gaudette, followed by Mr. Kuo’s class performing their own work, Galileo. Galileo has been previously performed at the Science Festival in April.

Kindergarten began with the poem Here is the Boat accompanied by classroom instruments. They sang Over in the Meadow and French canon Frere Jacques in two parts. Kindergarten ended with an old favorite by Woody Guthrie Mail Myself to You.

Fourth grade played It’s Raining and Old MacDonald on recorder. Then they both sang and played the recorder on There Was an Old Woman, ending with a surprise!

Second graders ended the concert with three well-known folk songs, Shady Grove from the Appalachians, Gypsy Rover, an Irish ballad, and Four White Horses from the Caribbean.

Thank you to Ms. Irvin-Kent and Ms. Gaudette, our music teachers! Thank you also to Armine Donato, accompanist extraordinaire. We look forward to seeing you at our concerts next year!
