Author Erica Perl, skyped with the Haggerty fourth grade book club to discuss her book
When Life Gives You O.J. Librarian Sarah Novogrodsky reported that Ms. Perl, “told us about her inspiration for the book and for many of the book’s characters, including the crazy grandpa, Ace.” Students shared their Chatterpix creations with Ms. Perl. Using the Chatterpix app to draw a mouth on a photograph and then record audio was a perfect tie-in activity with Ms. Perl’s book.
Thanks to the generosity of the Friends of Haggerty, students were also treated to visits from authors Vaunda Micheaux Nelson and Annette LeBlanc Cate. Ms. Nelson spoke about her books
Almost to Freedom and
Bad News for Outlaws: The Remarkable Life of Bass Reeves, Deputy U.S. Marshall. Annette LeBlanc Cate spoke to students about her book,
Look Up!: Birdwatching
in Your Own Backyard. After hearing about Ms. Cate’s love of birds and the inspiration for her book, students went on their own bird watching adventure at Fresh Pond.
Upcoming events at the Haggerty include visits by authors Uma Krishnaswami and Mitali Perkins in April and a visit with nonfiction author Loree Griffin Burns in May.
