Haggerty Centennial Year Kick-Off!

Haggerty Centennial Year Kick-Off!
Posted on 10/02/2015
centennialOn Friday, September 25th, we kicked-off Haggerty's Centennial year with a lot of pomp and circumstance. In the morning, the entire school, our neighbors, and many city dignitaries, gathered on the front steps, below an enormous American flag (thanks to the Cambridge Fire Department).

centennialOur Mayor (David Maher) and City Manager (Rich Rossi) gave brief speeches about the history of our school and the reconstruction of the original school building that was finished in 1995. In the 1995 reconstruction, two plaques were supposed to be put in the front columns of our school, but they were never completed due to unforeseen circumstances. To mark this centennial year, we asked the city to create these plaques and install them. Thanks to the Mayor and City Manager, this was accomplished and these plaques were unveiled that morning.

We also heard from our current principal, Nancy Campbell, who thanked the City for the best birthday gift ever - our new playground! Joe Petner, our former principal of 18 years, recounted some of our history and also challenged the students to come up with 100 Haggerty facts over this year.

centennialThat evening many staff (past and present), parents, and alumni, came together at the Mt. Auburn VFW for a social gathering. It was great to reconnect!

Please stay tuned for details of a final Centennial Celebration - a Spring-time BBQ in our new playground!
