Third Grade Visits the Museum of Science

On Thursday, January 23rd our third grade took a field trip to the Museum of Science! They brought a lot of chaperones, so they were able to spread out and explore all the exhibits in the Museum. They were particularly interested in the exhibit on the human body, a unit they recently finished, and the lights and sound exhibit - something they are about to study!  Thanks to third grade staff, our chaperones, and Friends of Haggerty for this enriching trip!

Valentine Day Reminder

A brief reminder as Valentine's Day approaches. Per our Sweets and Celebrations guideline, we ask that families not send in sweets to their classmates on Valentine's Day. You are welcome to send home kind cards to all the other children in the classroom. It's also a good idea to check in with your classroom teacher around how they celebrate or don't celebrate days like Valentine's day. Often teachers send home a list of all the student's in the class, so no one is left out.

If you wonder, how would I know something like this? You can find it in the Haggerty Guidebook.

The guidebook does try to address the basics.  Always happy to answer questions as well! Thanks, Lissa

Art Corner

In art, the preschool and kindergarten are continuing to build skills through art making. Last class we created wax-resist paintings by first drawing with white oil pastel, crayon or colored pencil, then using tempera paint to paint around the white, revealing their “secret drawing”.

First graders are creating watercolor seascapes, focusing on warm and cool colors, horizon lines, and color consistency.

Second through fourth graders are working on paper foods inspired by the artist Paper Eats. Using her process, students create paper sculptures on food in different states of being cooked. We will then create fun videos showing students teaching their recipes.

Fifth graders are creating shadow puppet shows based around various Aesop’s Fables. Students will perform and record the puppet shows for each other, and possibly perform for a school assembly.
