International Potluck
The
Haggerty community gathered on Thursday, October 17th for our annual International Potluck! It was a wonderful collection and sampling of our diverse cultures. We had 8 country tables that had a host of displays, activities, and food
samplings. Thank you to all the families that contributed to the displays for: Ethiopia, South Korea, the People’s Republic of China, Germany, Thailand, The Gambia & Senegal, India, and the Dominican Republic!
The food table was also brimming with so many delicious dishes from all over the world! We enjoyed West African Drumming and a dancing presentation from Joh. The students were eager to learn all the moves! Thanks to our Friends of Haggerty
Math Coach’s Corner
Sometimes we think math is all about the numbers, but with our curriculum, Illustrative Math, we try to make it VISUAL. We use math materials like cubes, tens blocks, or fraction bars.
We also teach children how to draw math ideas. Join us on Wednesday, November, 20, 7:45-8:45, to learn more about how Illustrative Math makes math VISUAL. Then, if your child is ever stuck at home with a math problem, you can encourage
them to draw their thinking!
Mathily yours,
Nili Pearlmutter

Animal Classification in Grade 3
Students in 3rd grade are studying Animal Classification this month. Students are learning about Warm-Blooded
and Cold-Blooded animals along with many other fun incredible facts about the Animal Kingdom. If your child is in 3rd grade, be sure to ask them about amphibians and reptiles or vertebrate and invertebrates. Did you know that all mammals
have hair or fur? DId you know that some fish can live for a year without eating? Ask your 3rd grader to share more fascinating facts with you.
To all of our Haggerty Caregivers: Please remember nightly reading is expected for all students. Nightly reading is an important practice for all students, we hope that you will make time to read with and/or to
your children each night. If you’re a caregiver for children in Preschool to Grade 2, we hope to see you next Friday, November 1, in the Library for our: Tips for Teaching at Home. Please join me, Suzanne Russell and

our way to constructive, considerate criticism. We also tested some of the shading techniques we practiced during the op-art unit in a skills assessment, where students practiced creating pencil gradations and using those tones in
shading a cube and sphere.
For the next unit, we will be creating various projects with yarn, mostly centered on yarn painting.

Friends of Haggerty (FOH)
Are
you swapping your summer shorts for fall flannels? Are you ready to bury skeletons of outdated Halloween costumes? Before you chuck it to the curb, Friends of Haggerty hopes you will consider dropping it by the blue bins next to Haggerty’s Lawn Street entrance.
For every pound of clothing, shoes or textiles dropped off in the blue bins Haggerty gets a donation. Last year alone we all raised over $1300 from the blue bins. And they take way more than just clothes. You can drop
off shoes, accessories (like hats, bags, scarves and gloves), linens and yes those old Halloween costumes. You can find a comprehensive list of all the items they accept here.
So whether your kiddos hit another one of those growth spurts or you are zhuzhing up your curtains and sheets for the season please consider an easy way to fundraise while you declutter!
