Beauty and the Beak
We recently hosted our first STEAM author, Deborah Lee Rose. Her work supports our Technology curriculum as classes grades 3-5 have been learning about 3D design and printing and about the subject matter of her book, the 3D design and creation of a prosthetic beak for an injured eagle. We at the Haggerty are excited to have access to our 3D printer (thanks, Friends of Haggerty!) and the wonderful 3D design site “Tinkercad,” where our students are able to become designers and inventors as they visualize and create their own 3D objects.
In the library the students read the books Beauty and the Beak: How Science, Technology, and A 3D-Printed Beak Rescued a Bald Eagle. The students had wonderful questions for the author. The most exciting part was getting to hold the 3D printed beak that was used with Beauty. Ask your student about the visit!
Thanks to FOH for supporting the Haggerty Library and Technology programming.
