We often extend a library read aloud with a “story extension activity” to help bring a book to life.
Second graders read
The Pink Refrigerator by Tim Egan and wrote their own notes to Dodsworth, the main character. “Become A Writer,” “Become an Artist,” “Go to Outer Space,” “Get Better at Legos,” “Play Sports,” and “Do Math,” are just a few of encouraging notes students wrote to Dodsworth.
Junior K read
Frederick by Leo Lionni and made their own mice preparing for winter.
Fourth graders wrapped up a unit on the California drought with our Simmons student teacher Emma Johnson by learning about how they can save water in their own lives. Learn more at home by playing games from Project Wet (
http://discoverwater.org) or by
finding out your water footprint.
