Our new curriculum, Illustrative Math, has engaging centers where students practice skills they have learned. Last week, Kindergarten had aMath Morning where students demonstrated games and activities for families and teachers.
In one geometry activity, children choose an image, like a chair or a castle, and try to build that shape with blocks. This develops their ability to put shapes together to make new shapes.
In the Math Stories center, children have an image of a place, like a playground, beach or a farm. They make up math stories to match and draw them on.
Many of the centers help students practice adding and subtracting.
